Yes — almost every Red Wing boot can be resoled, and we handle the entire process at our Lafayette store. This is one of the single biggest reasons Red Wing is worth the money: when the sole wears out (and it will, eventually, even on a great boot), you don’t throw a $300 boot away. You spend a fraction of that and get them back like new.
How the Resoling Process Works
- Drop your boots off at our store at 2207 Kaliste Saloom Rd. We’ll inspect them, confirm they’re a candidate for resoling, and give you a price quote
- We ship them to the Red Wing factory in Red Wing, Minnesota — the same factory that built them in the first place
- Red Wing’s technicians remove the old sole, inspect the welt and upper, replace any damaged components, install a brand-new sole, and recondition the leather
- About 4–6 weeks later your boots come back to our store, and we let you know they’re ready for pickup
What Resoling Costs
Pricing depends on the boot model and the level of service needed, but most safety toe and work boot resoles run around $130–$170. For a $300 boot, that’s less than half the cost of a new pair — and you get another 2–3 years of use out of a boot that’s already broken in to your foot.
When a Boot Can’t Be Resoled
Most Goodyear-welted Red Wings can be resoled at least once, often twice. Boots that can’t be resoled:
- Cemented-construction boots (rare in Red Wing, common in cheap brands) — the sole is glued, not stitched
- Boots where the welt itself is too damaged to attach a new sole to
- Boots with structural damage to the upper, lining, or insole that can’t be repaired
We’ll let you know upfront if your boot isn’t a candidate — we won’t take your money for a job that can’t produce a quality result.
How to Know It’s Time
- Tread is worn smooth — especially the heel and the lugs around the ball of the foot
- Sole feels uneven when you walk on a flat floor — usually means it’s worn down on one side
- Heel breakdown — the back of the heel is collapsing or rolling
- Water getting in — cracks in the sole or sole separation from the upper
